I've been a member of this comm for a while but am finally getting around to making an intro post. My name is Rita, and I am a 40-year-old single white woman. Last year I adopted my biracial son (African-American and Hispanic) from foster care. Sam is now 20 months old. My icon pic is from Easter, and here is one from a few weeks ago:

Sam's sister was adopted by their paternal grandmother, and we are blessed to have a good, ongoing relationship with them. I take seriously my responsibility to raise him to be a biracial man in a still very racist country, and I'm so glad we have those family ties to keep him grounded in his community of origin.

If anyone wants to know more about adopting from foster care, just ask me!

And as a single white mama raising a bircial son, I say: GO OBAMA!!!
